Grit & Perseverance Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The Grit and Perseverance Scholarship is inspired by the incredible journey of CAHA’s own Bryce Miller. In the spring of 2023, Bryce suffered a life-threatening brain hemorrhage. Throughout his recovery and eventual return to hockey, Bryce demonstrated amazing resolve and toughness. Both the inspiration of his journey and the remarkable outpouring of support from the hockey community have served as the motivation for our celebration of the grit and perseverance uniquely observed in the sport of hockey. The challenges and lessons learned through this sport have critical relevance to success in life beyond the ice.

This is an essay-based scholarship that invites applicants to reflect on the values and qualities they developed through their hockey journey—teamwork, discipline, leadership, and commitment—and how they intend to apply these lessons to their future endeavors.

Applicants are encouraged to share personal stories of grit and perseverance, highlighting how they overcame obstacles during their time in hockey. The scholarship is designed to honor individuals who embody the spirit of hard work and determination, both on and off the ice, and who strive to make a positive impact in their future pursuits.
